One day, she came to me and exclaimed, “Mr. Chapman, my family finally has an apartment! The only problem is all we have in our apartment is a full-size bed for six people and nothing else.” This led me to think about homelessness and how people get back on their feet after being homeless. I was not aware of any place in New York City where people of little to no means could get affordable furniture and household goods delivered to their homes. In light of Hurricane Sandy and the current Covid-19 pandemic, I felt the urgency to create an organization that would assist people who have overcome catastrophes (floods, fires, domestic abuse), come out of homelessness, foster care, or just need help like many veterans and the elderly. By the age of 22 he had lost both his biological parents and his foster parents. Mr. Chapman has a B.A. degree in Political Science/History from Tufts University, a J.D. from Harvard Law School, an M.P.A from Baruch College, and an M.S. Ed (Special Education) from Brooklyn College. He has completed management training programs at Procter & Gamble and Citibank, practiced corporate and antitrust law, been a special education teacher, college professor, and prior executive director of other nonprofits. Mr. Chapman was the developer and first Director of Executive Transition and Leadership Services at the Support Center for Nonprofit Management in New York where he trained, placed, and managed 80 interim executive directors and 20 consultants in transitional management. He has taught, tutored, and mentored secondary and college students as well as adults in Math, History, English, Science, and construction in New York, Massachusetts, New Jersey and Minnesota. Samora’s professional experience has focused on Agriculture, FinTech and Investment banking in Tanzania, the United Kingdom, and the United States. He is currently at BBVA (Banco Bilbao Vizcaya Argentaria) where he leads the US & LATAM Credit Syndicate desk which is tasked with helping corporations in both regions raise capital via the public markets. Prior to BBVA Samora was in Business Development at AI Fintech Vise where he joined as as an early employee (employee #18 ) and helped the company expand to over 80 employees, increase it footprints in the mid and western U.S, and grow from a Series A to Series C company. Samora’s prior work includes over eight years experience in investment banking in fixed income trading, origination, and advisory across banking and insurance sectors (Cleo Capital, Barclays Investment Bank, Credit Suisse Investment Bank). In addition, he has acquired and managed small farming operations (~5 acres) in Tanzania. During Samora’s time in the UK he was also involved in nonprofit programs to help foster youth and people who are homeless through Action for Children and Shelter. As project lead for the New York, New Jersey, and Latin American portfolio, he successfully delivered 79 projects in a 5 year period with a total value of ~$75mm. While at Goldman Sachs, Daniel was instrumental in creating the “Local College Collaborative Program” which provides local college students with core-skill development, coaching, and mentoring. The program additionally serves as a conduit to promote diverse recruitment from schools in the NY/NJ area who have not historically been high priority for the investment banking industry. After the program's creation Daniel proudly served as a coach and mentor to his alma mater, Borough of Manhattan Community College, for 4 years. He is the founder and organizer of Exceptional Women Football Club, which promotes gender equality in mixed gender amateur sports.
